Torrential rain hit the city at noon yesterday, cooling down temperature at the Expo site and bringing some relief to the visitors.
Some 409,000 people entered the Expo site by 7pm yesterday. Among yesterday's visitors, 124,000 came in tour groups and 47,039 were local residents with complimentary tickets offered by the city government. A total of 70,501 tickets were sold at the gates, 26,045 of them for evening visit.
As of 6pm, 77,000 visitors had passed through Houtan entrance, compared with 59,000 at Shangnan Road entrance, 72,000 at Changqing Road entrance and 53,000 at Gaoke Road entrance.
As many as 55 shows were performed at Expo venues from morning to 5pm yesterday, attracting 39,000 spectators.
Some 5,754 volunteers worked on the site and the five on-site clinics treated 441 visitors by 4pm yesterday.
The Expo Organizer expects some 117,800 group visitors today.
