A former senior African diplomat has praised the progress made by China in the past 60 years, especially since the adoption of the policy of reform and opening up.

"China has made extraordinary all-round progress in the past 60 years," former Togolese ambassador to China and President of Togo-China Friendship Association Yao Bloua Agbo told Xinhua in an interview.

Agbo, leading a delegation from Togo-China Friendship Association, visited China on June 16-22 at the invitation of the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries.

"Since China adopted the policy of reform and opening up 30 years ago, China has made great progress," he said. "I can see that the Chinese people enjoy very good living conditions."

He also said China has successfully consolidated its national unity, maintained political stability and ethnic solidarity.

"Other developing countries should learn from China's experiences in development," he said.

"On the eve of the 60th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, it is my sincere wish that China will constantly consolidate its national unity and achieve peaceful reunification," he said.

Agbo said peaceful settlement of the Taiwan question is in accord with China's interests and the interests of the world as a whole, as "the Chinese people can concentrate on national development in a more peaceful regional environment."

While evaluating the China-Togo partnership of friendly cooperation, Agbo said the cooperation between the two countries was a kind of win-win cooperation across various areas.

"China-Togo cooperation develops under very good conditions. This is a kind of cooperation with various types and great benefits," he said.

Agbo said that cooperation between the two countries for mutual benefit had developed well since the establishment of bilateral diplomatic ties in September 1972.

He listed a series of big projects in Togo that had benefited from Chinese assistance and expressed satisfaction with the implementation of the programs. He said that, since 1974, China regularly sent medical teams to Togo, provided for personnel training and offered scholarships to Togolese students.

Agbo also noted that China had lowered or exempted his country's debts and offered preferential loans, fiscal grants and interest-free loans to Togo.

According to the win-win principle, Agbo said, China-Togo and China-African cooperation would further consolidate and strengthen, through the projects under the framework of the China-Africa Cooperation Forum.

"The implementation of the projects will contribute to the consolidation and enhancement of the China-African relations of friendly cooperation," he said.
