BEIJING -- The second book of a series on the history of the Communist Party of China (CPC), focusing on the 1949-1978 period, has been published in five ethnic minority languages, following its publication in Chinese five months ago.

The Mongolian, Tibetan, Uygur, Kazakh and Korean language versions of the book have come off the presses recently, said the Ethnic Publishing House, in a statement issued Tuesday.

Compiled by the Party History Research Center of the CPC Central Committee, the book was published in Chinese in January.

The book documents CPC history from the founding of the People's Republic of China (PRC) in 1949 to the holding of the Third Plenary Session of the 11th CPC Central Committee in 1978, a starting point for the country's reform and opening-up.

The book offers an overall and accurate description of the extraordinary process in which the CPC had led the Chinese people to carry out the socialist revolution and construction, the statement said.

According to officials, more than 1 million copies of the book's Chinese version had been sold as of mid-May.

A previous book, which documented the CPC history from its birth in 1921 to the founding of the People's Republic of China in 1949, was published in 1991.
