BEIJING -- Li Bingcai, vice-chairman of the Chinese mainland's Association for Relations Across the Taiwan Straits (ARATS), will leave for Taiwan on Wednesday to convey his condolences to Lien Chan, honorary chairman of the Kuomintang, whose mother recently died.

Yang Yi, spokesman for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, made the statement at a press conference.

Lien's mother died of illness on April 17 at the age of 103.
