DONGGUAN, South China, Nov. 16 (Xinhua) -- Pang Kum Chol won the second weightlifting gold medal for DPR Korea at the Guangzhou Asiad as his biggest rival Su Dajin of China failed in all jerk attempts here on Tuesday.
Su, who failed in all jerk attempts at last month's world championships, repeated it again this time in Guangzhou.
"Because the Asiad is held in China, I'm too eager to get the gold," said the 24-year-old Chinese national champion, "I'm sorry for the home fans."
Su made the crowd crazy by taking the lead after hoisting 158kg in the snatch, 2kg more than Pang.
However, in the clean and jerk, Pang lifted a controlled weight of 185kg in his first attempt before Su failed to lift 190kg. In front of a capacity of some 3,000 spectators, nervous Su didn't find his rhythm and wasted the last chances at 190kg.
Pang secured the gold by jerking 192kg in his second attempt. With a 23kg-lead against second-placed Pavlov Kirill of Kazakhstan, Pang gave up his third attempt.
Pang totalled at 348kg, followed by Pavlov Kirill at 325kg and Shauyeteyev Dauren of Kazakhstan at 310kg.
"Chinese lifters are all in a high-level, but Su didn't perform well, I felt sorry about that," said Pang, who finished sixth in total of 340kg at world championships.
Pang's gold is the second weightlifting title for his country, after Kim Kum Sok won the men's 69kg weightlifting on Monday.
