Taiwan's Uni-President group said yesterday it sold a 45 per cent stake in its Starbucks unit to Starbucks Corp's international arm for US$21.3 million, with an aim to increase co-operation between the two partners.
"The new 50-50 ownership structure confirms Starbucks' faith in Uni-President's management of the franchise in Taiwan and Shanghai," said Wang Wen-hsin, the public affairs manager at President Chain Store. President Chain is a group member, whose ownership in the local Starbucks' franchise dropped to 30 per cent from 50 per cent. Group flagship Uni-President Enterprises Corp's stake fell to 20 per cent from 45 per cent.
