Dongguan City plans to build the mainland's first hospital for Taiwan investors, the Guangzhou Daily reported Sunday (August 24th).

The cost of the hospital would be met by the city's Taiwan businessmen's association and a Taiwan hospital. Work is expected to start by the end of the year (2003) after the government gives its approval.

The hospital, which is expected to cost US$35 million, will provide 500 hospital beds. Doctors and staff would be recruited from the mainland, Taiwan and other parts of the world.

More than 100,000 Taiwan investors and their families are now living in Dongguan.

A hospital that offers satisfactory service has become an urgent need among Taiwan businessmen. Dongguan is also home to the mainland's first school for the children of Taiwan investors.
