Last January, Zhejiang Province newly approved 54 Taiwan-funded enterprises, with the contract investment being US$67.82 million, and the real investment $22.6 million, an increase of 59.2% and 169.4% respectively over the same period of last year.
According to the Zhejiang Daily, various areas in Zhejiang Province, under the guidance of the fresh working ideology of “Connecting Shanghai to the north and attracting investment from Taiwan to the east”, greater efforts have been made to lure Taiwan investment. Cities like Ningbo, Hangzhou, Shaoxing, Jiaxing and Huzhou have become the hottest spots for Taiwan investors. By now, the quantity of Taiwan-funded projects and the contract Taiwan investment approved by the above-mentioned 5 cities have accounted for 76.3% and 86.4% of the total in the Province. Taiwan investment pattern in the province is featured by wide-ranging sectors and multiple levels, shifting its focus from the traditional labor-intensive industries to high-tech ones, especially electronic and information projects. Up to now, nearly one hundred Taiwan enterprises specializing in semi-conductor, computer and related industries have invested in Zhejiang.
