| Shandong Province Further Improves Environment for Taiwan Investors |

Shandong Provincial Government recently held a talk with Taiwan investors, during which the government expressed their thanks to Taiwan investors for the latter's contribution to the economic and trade cooperation and exchanges between Shandong and Taiwan and to Shandong's economic development. The government also sent congratulations to Taiwan investors on the fast achievements they had made in Shandong.
In recent years, because of the double efforts made by the provincial government, Shandong's environment for investment has been continuously improved. The economic and trade cooperation between Shandong and Taiwan has been greatly boosted while a huge amount of foreign investment has been absorbed. In 2002, the province approved 400 new enterprises with investment from Taiwan, the total number of contractual investment being US$1.2 billion against the figure of actually paid-up investment being US$0.65 billion. Taiwan investment in the province has been increasing at a radical yearly rate of over 85% in the past three years.
The talk urged governments at different levels to make more efforts to improve investment environment, offer good services to Taiwan compatriots and Taiwan enterprises, help them to solve the difficulties they are faced with in their operation and daily life, maintain their legal rights, and join hands in creating an environment good to the development of Taiwan investors in Shangdong. Meanwhile, the government hoped that Taiwan investors would further display their role as bridge and tie and make a bigger contribution to the economic and trade cooperation between the two regions.
