Taiwan businessmen have shown great interest and actively participated in the development of China's western region. Many Taiwan delegations have visited the region and held investment negotiations.
Taiwan Affairs Office under the State Council announced that between 2000 and 2002, twelve western provinces attracted 1,820 investment projects from Taiwan business people.
The total contracted amount has surpassed 2 and a half billion US dollars. The fields include traditional industries, the high-tech and service sectors. The projects range from small and medium-sized to larger ones.
