| Actual Utilized Taiwan Investment in Hubei Province Increased 38.56 Per Cent Last Year |

According to sources from the Taiwan Investors’ Symposium on Investment in the First Quarter held yesterday, an additional 74 Taiwan enterprises were set up in the province in 2003, with a total investment of US$193 million, and there was a 38.56 per cent growth in real Taiwan investment over the year before. By the end of 2002, there have been 1613 Taiwan enterprises registered in the province, with the total investment being US$2.608 billion, the contractual Taiwan investment US$1.692 billion, and the real Taiwan investment US$1.196 billion. Taiwan investment came in 2nd in terms of the total direct foreign investment in the province, and ranked front in provinces and autonomous regions in central and western regions.
Taiwan will be one of the key areas where Hubei Province targets to attract investment and channel funds in 2003. The Provincial Party Committee and the Provincial Government have worked creatively with regard to the improvement of the soft and hard investment environment, intensified policy supports, and enhancement of means for investment attraction. A person in charge expressed explicitly the difficulties and problems confronting the Taiwan investors will be jointly settled through negotiations and timely coordination with government departments concerned so as to provide better service and create a sound investment environment for Taiwan businesses.
