Traditional Mooncake Is Back

Chaozhou style mooncake

In the recent years, Guangzhou restaurants presented to us many new and high-ended mooncake, such as jade mooncake, swallow nest mooncake, etc. But people are still in favour of the traditional Guangzhou-style mooncake- the lotus-seed-paste one with double yolks. This year, a number of restaurants put the traditional mooncake into stylish package, making it a box of nostalgia.

Mid autumn festival is around the corner. Many restaurants link the festival with traditional culture in a bid to promote their mooncakes. The 'seeds-assembly' cake from Dongfang Hotel is packed in a elegant wooden box, on which an ancient poem is printed. Inside the box we can find a pamphlet with a story of 'seed' on it. As in Chinese the word 'seed' shares the same pronunciation with 'benevolent', the core of Confucius' philosophy, the pamphlet also touch this field and enrich the meaning of mooncake.

Guangzhou Restaurant gives us a surprise by its 'Chaozhou-style' mooncake. This delicious mooncake is with deep-fried base and taro paste filling.
