The group sculpture "Soul of the Shang Dynasty", created by Beijing Jingwen Art Academy and presenting the scenes of the society in the Shang Dynasty (c.1600-1100BC), recently won the gold prize at the World's Peace Art Exhibition of the United Nations.
The sculptures employ several visual languages, such as venerable Ding (an ancient cooking vessel) and tomahawk, vivid Jue (an ancient wine vessel with three legs and a loop handle), kind elephant and so on, to ingeniously incorporate the heaven, the earth, the human, the god and animals into a harmonious whole.
In terms of techniques, the artists used round carving, relievo, fretwork and line carving, etc. to make each image of the group sculpture lifelike. |
