China Central Television is to launch a music channel in late March, to compete with foreign rivals such as MTV and Channel V in Hong Kong SAR.
The music channel will bring the total number of channels that China's national broadcaster operates to 15.
CCTV music channel, which will broadcast 13 hours of music each day, will not only promote pop music, but also classical and folk.
China's pop music scene has been dominated by Channel V, which launched in China in 1995.
MTV first aired in China's Guangdong Province last year in an attempt to capture the pop music market. |
