Led by Japanese conductor Seiji Ozawa, the Vienna Philharmonic made its local debut at the Shanghai Grand Theater last night.
The orchestra began its tour with a show at the People's Hall in Beijing on Tuesday night.
"All of us want the concerts in China a complete success since it's a honor for us to visit the great country," said tour manager Rudolf Buchmann. "With our music crossing over the language barrier, we hope Chinese people will know more about our orchestra and classical music."
According to press officer Schuster Wolfgang, the orchestra will take a sightseeing trip around the city today before performing another concert at the theater this evening.
Ozawa is expected to visit the Shanghai Conservatory of Music this afternoon. |
