The First Youth Concerto Artist Competition raised its curtain February 22 in Beijing where Wu Zhengyu from the Shanghai Conservatory of Music placed first for his elaborate and elegant interpretation of Sibelius' violin concerto.
Sponsored by the China National Symphony Orchestra, the competition aims to provide a stage for young Chinese performers. More than 50 competitors from across the country are all undergraduates of conservatories of music, with the youngest only 14 years of age. All of the works performed at the competition are from music maestros like Chopin, Sibelius and Tchaikovsky. The exquisite skills of the young artists display their profound comprehension and precise interpretation of these masterpieces.
Liu Shikun, member of the review committee and a celebrated pianist, noted: "A lot of young performing artists of great potential emerged in this competition, which is definitely a good thing for the development of art in China."
The winners will attend the performing season of the China National Symphony Orchestra and get the chance to study abroad. |
