The Yaojiao, or "Rocker" is a traditional toy that has brought much joy to country kids in the past. Now, it has inspired some explicit sculptures by artist Liang Shuo.
Yaojiao is a toy you can rock to make a rhythmic sound. But nowadays it's seldom found, even in village children's hands. Old things are dying. But this artist has moved with the times by remaking these old toys to cater to modern metropolitan tastes.
Sensuality is the main theme of the sculpture exhibition. The small earthen toys feature different forms and styles, all expressing different voices.
As a graduate of Central Academy of Fine Art, Liang Shuo is trying to release his subconsciousness. The power of his artistic works may also inspire a new artistic trend in China. |
