| Ministers Arrive in Beijing for Cross-Continent Cultural Conference |

Cultural ministers from Asia and Europe arrived in Beijing on Tuesday to attend a conference on cultural diversity and challenges brought about by globalization.
The 16 ministers and about 200 delegates from 26 members of the Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) will attend the two-day meeting which will begin on Wednesday.
The conference was initiated by former Chinese Premier Zhu Rongji during the ASEM summit meeting last year. The conference isthe first ASEM ministers' meeting on culture.
The ASEM members include Asian countries such as China, Singapore, Japan, Vietnam and European Union members such as France and Germany.
The cultural conference aims to enhance mutual trust between the two continents and seek common values from the various cultures, ethnic groups, geographic conditions, religions and social and economic situations.
China has prepared bilingual or even trilingual liaison officers for all the delegations and 10 translators for the general conference, sources said. |
