
Situated on Wenming Road, this was once the site of Guandong's imperial examination hall during the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911), and later of Zhongshan University. The Dazhong (Big Bell) Tower, which is now the Lu Xun Memorial Hall, once served as the administrative office for Zhongsghan University, and the site of the First Congress of the Kuomintang. Guangdong provincial museum was built in 1957, and was open to the public two years later.
The museum is now consisted of three parts: the display area, the site of the first congress of the Kuomintang and the Lu Xun Memorial Hall.
The museum has a collection of over 124,000 pieces of various cultural relics, most of which are from Guangdong, including ceramics, paintings, ink stabs, wood sculptures, coins and so on.
The museum had cooperated with many other museum and academics in co-hosting various exhibitions, such as Shiwan Ceramics, Guangdong Calligraphy in Ming and Qing Dynasty, Pre-Qin-Dynasty Guangdong cultural relics, Calligraphy and Painting by Su Liupeng, Guangdong cultural relics in Jin and Tang Dynasty.
