The municipal forestry department has implemented a series of measures to protect the city's trees in the event of future heavy snowfalls, reports Beijing Times.
Besides adding supports to some taller trees, the department has been cutting off the surplus branches of many trees, as well as filling in the empty trunks of older trees.
This year's first snow came very early to Beijing, before most trees had shed all their leaves. As a result, snow became trapped in the branches, weighing them down and causing them to break.
