The rare Tibetan antelope is a target for poachers hoping to get their hands on the animal's fine wool. As a result, the animal has suffered a major decline. But there is hope though that can be reversed. Authorities responsible for the Kekexili nature reserve in China's northwestern Qinghai province have set up a center to care for injured or lost antelopes.
These two residents, a Tibetan antelope and a Mongolia gazelle, have been at the reserve for
several months. When they were first picked up by the local police, the so-called "Guards of the Antelope", they had serious bullet wounds in the legs. They have since almost recovered, and their next lesson is to learn to live in the wild on their own.
One official says more centers like these will be set up in the future.
