Beijing's public schools will resume all classes on June 30, two weeks ahead of schedule, as SARS is brought under control, officials of the Beijing Education Commission said Thursday.
To prevent the spread of the SARS virus, Beijing's middle schools, primary schools and kindergartens were all closed on April 24 and 1.7 million students went home to continue study via TV programs or the Internet.
On May 22, third-year senior students at high schools returned school to prepare for the university entrance exams from June 7 to8.
On June 9, sixth-year primary school students and third-year junior high school students also went back to school while classes for other students were scheduled to resume on July 14.
Students will begin a five-week summer vacation on July 25 as planned and then return in the autumn for the next school year, said the education commission.
To ensure the health of students and teachers, schools are required to make full preparations for SARS prevention, including taking students temperatures, disinfecting school property and providing adequate ventilation.
One week after the students return to school, the TV education programs which have played for more than two months will also stop on July 5.
