The Chinese capital reported only seven new SARS cases on Monday with the daily number dropping into the low single digits for the first time since April 19th.
SARS expert Jin Shuigao from the Chinese Centre of Disease Control and Prevention says Beijing's measures to curb the spread of SARS over the past few weeks have been very effective .
He notes the number of Beijing's newly infected medical workers has declined sharply, and the infectious sources have been brought under control.
A joint study by several scientific research institutions in Beijing also predicts the final number of SARS cases in Beijing may lie between 2,900 and 3,300. At the end of May, the average daily new cases could be below 10, and the number may continue to drop to 5 by around June 10th.
