China's reporting system on infectious disease was "efficient and accurate," said a senior health official in Beijing Tuesday. 

Liang Wannian, deputy director of Beijing Public Health Bureau and an epidemiologist, told a press conference that the current reporting system on severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) is strictly regulated by China's law on infectious disease prevention.

He also briefed the press conference on the work-flow of the reporting system.

When a doctor diagnoses a confirmed SARS or suspected SARS case, the doctor should fill a special form and report to the hospital the doctor works in, Liang said.

The hospital then will deliver the report to the district or county center for disease control and prevention (CDC) where the hospital is located, he said.

The Beijing Municipal CDC makes the data public through further confirmation and analysis after receiving local CDC's report, he said.

Such work-flow is applicable to all A or B type of infectious diseases, Liang added.
