Iranian presidential candidate urges consistency in economic policies

TEHRAN -- The prominent Iranian presidential candidate, Saeed Jalili, said Sunday that the next administration in the Islamic republic should be consistent in pursuing the country's economic policies.

"One of our arguments is that, in the field of economy, there shouldn't be various outlooks shaping up every day. What has ( already) been turned into the law, into the general policies of the establishment and the upstream document, must be well implemented today," Jalili, Iran's chief nuclear negotiator, was quoted as saying by Press TV.

Jalili, also the secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, said that one of the most important tasks of the future president, and the greatest expectation of the Iranian people from him, is to resolve economic issues that the country faces today.

The Islamic republic, as the presidential candidates unanimously emphasize these days, is grappling with the high unemployment, high inflation rate, declining domestic production and depreciated currency value.

On Friday, Jalili said that he will remain faithful to the ideals of Iran's Islamic Revolution of 1979 if elected president.

"Anyone who becomes the next Iranian president must continue on the path of the Islamic Revolution and must use all available resources to achieve the objectives of the revolution," said Jalili addressing his supporters at Tehran's Shiroudi Sports Complex.

"Iran is an influential regional power," and the next president must continue to tread the path of the late Imam Khomeini, the founder of the Islamic republic, by expanding the influence of Islam across the world and diminishing the domination of the global arrogance, he said, according to Press TV.

Last week, Iran's Guardian Council of Constitution announced the names of eight eligible candidates for the upcoming presidential election slated for June 14.
