HONG KONG -- An earthquake measuring 6.5 on the Richter scale jolted Tonga at 2107 GMT on Thursday (0507 Beijing Time on Friday), the U.S. Geological Survey said.

The epicenter, with a depth of 144.40 km, was initially determined to be at 20.7050 degrees south latitude and 175.3260 degrees west longitude.
