HONG KONG -- An earthquake measuring 7.4 on the Richter scale jolted south of the Fiji Islands at 1719 GMT on Thursday(0119 Beijing Time on Friday), the U.S. Geological Survey said.

The epicenter, with a depth of 207.70 km, was initially determined to be at 23.1300 degrees south latitude and 176.5830 degrees west longitude.
