TUNIS -- Tunisian Prime Minister Ali Laarayedh said Monday that some 200 people had been arrested following clashes between the police and hundreds of Salafists in the capital on Sunday.

The clashes left one person dead and at least 14 injured, according to the Interior Ministry.

In an interview with the Qatari newspaper Al Hayat, Laarayedh said the advocates of Ansar El Shariaa, a radical Islamist group which was banned from holding its meeting on Sunday in Kairouan, had defied authority of the state. On Sunday, he accused the movement of being a "terrorist" organization.

The funeral of the man killed in the Sunday clashes in a district west of Tunis, took place on Monday afternoon. According to local media, no incidents were reported.
