BEIJING -- China's top political advisor Jia Qinglin on Tuesday said more contributions are needed for the country's reunification.

Jia, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, made the remarks in a meeting with members of the Third Executive Council of China Overseas Friendship Association (COFA), a group with close ties with overseas Chinese.

Jia, also chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), urged the association to unite as much as possible to make more contributions toward the country's reunification.

Jia said the association should unswervingly adhere to the principles of "One country, Two systems" in a bid to maintain the long-term prosperity and stability of Hong Kong and Macao.

In addition, Jia urged the association to build a more solid social and public opinion base for the peaceful reunification with Taiwan.

The association should also promote closer exchanges and relations with overseas Chinese and peoples of other countries in a bid to bring about a great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation and promote friendship and understanding.

In a bid to build a favorable environment for China's reform and development, Jia asked the association to advocate for China's advanced culture and its scientific, peaceful and harmonious concepts of development.
