HONG KONG -- Taiwan's share prices closed lower Friday with the weighted index down 9.74 points, or 0.12 percent, to close at 7,947.72, according to news reaching here from Taipei.

The local bourse fluctuated between 7,970.24 and 7,913.16 during the day's trading. Turnover totaled 75.67 billion new Taiwan dollars (about 2.56 billion U.S. dollars).
