HONG KONG -- Taiwan's share prices closed higher Tuesday with the weighted index up 17.35 points, or 0.21 percent, to close at 7,960.88, according to news reaching here from Taipei.

The local bourse fluctuated between 7,946.09 and 7,974.4 during the day's trading. Turnover totaled 80.09 billion new Taiwan dollars (about 2.71 billion U.S. dollars).
