FUZHOU - Two fishermen have been rescued and another two remained missing after a fishing boat sank in the Taiwan Straits on Tuesday, said authorities with the marine bureau of Quanzhou in East China's Fujian province.

With four fishermen on board, the fishing boat sank near Wuqiu Island in the Taiwan Strait around 7:35 Tuesday morning amid strong gales in the area, said an authority with the marine bureau of Quanzhou.

The two fishermen who were rescued have been sent to hospital and have no life-threatening injuries.

Meanwhile, it has been confirmed that the boat is from the city of Putian in Fujian.

The marine bureau of Quanzhou began emergency rescue operations after receiving the report. Local marine rescuers, boats and helicopters have been dispatched for the rescue work.

A rescue force from Taiwan also went to site of the accident.

The rescue work is ongoing.
