China is willing to work with Romania to push forward the stable and healthy development of bilateral ties, said a senior official of the Communist Party of China (CPC) in Beijing on Monday.

Li Changchun, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, made the remarks in a meeting with a delegation of the Romanian National Liberal Party (NLP) led by Teodor Melescanu, NLP vice-chairman and vice-chairman of the Romanian senate.

Li said China and Romania enjoy a profound traditional friendship and have maintained the smooth development of bilateral relations since forging diplomatic ties in 1949.

In recent years, China and Romania have witnessed frequent high-level exchanges and increased mutual political trust. They have expanded cooperation in economy, trade, culture, education, science and technology, and have kept in close contact in international affairs, Li noted.

Li expressed China's appreciation for Romania's support on issues concerning Taiwan and Tibet.

As for the party-to-party relations between China and Romania, Li said the CPC attaches great importance to friendly relations with the NLP and will further promote cooperation with Romania's friendly political parties in an effort to inject new vitality into the development of bilateral relations.

Melescanu said the NLP values the strong relations with the CPC and is ready to enhance mutual understanding between the two sides through more party-to-party exchanges, so as to cement the existing Romania-China friendship and push forward the friendly and cooperative relations between the two parties and the two countries.
