Four-point remark by Hu Jintao, general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Centeral Committee, on the development of cross-straits relations under the new situation has cast far-reaching impacts. Lin Wenyi, chairperson of the Taiwan Democratic Self-Government League (TDSGL), told Xinhua in an exclusive interview in Beijing Thursday.
Hu made the remark on March 4, 2005, when he was meeting with members attending last year's annual session of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee.
The four points are, namely, to insist on principles of One-China, Peaceful Reunification, Pinning Hopes on Taiwan People, and Opposing "Taiwan Independence".
Over the past year, the Chinese mainland has taken a series of major steps to safeguard peace and stability in the Taiwan Straits area, including the adoption of the Anti-Secession Law by the National People's Congress and the mainland visits by leaders of Taiwan's Kuomintang, People First Party and New Party, Lin said.
Lin accused Chen Shui-bian's recent moves to cease function of Taiwan's "unification council" and "unification guidelines", calling it a "dangerous step", adding that Chen's separatist conspiracy is doomed to fail.
The Taiwan Democratic Self-Government League is in resolute opposition to "Taiwan independence", and it will never allow the "Taiwan independence" secessionist forces to separate Taiwan from the motherland under any name and in any methods, Lin said. |
